Today (May 13, 2025) the NOPD – aided by the U.S. Marshals and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office – arrested Evans Rogers (black male, DOB: 05-01-2006) in its investigation of an attempted homicide incident that occurred on May 12, 2025, in the 1600 block of Elizardi Boulevard.

At about 2:00 p.m., NOPD Fourth District officers responded to a call of a shooting in the 2900 block of Lawrence Street. Upon arrival, officers located a 9-year-old juvenile female who had sustained a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Upon further investigation, the location of occurrence was changed to the 1600 block of Elizardi Boulevard. 

Through investigation, NOPD detectives determined that the child was in the area when gunfire began. It is believed that the child was taken inside of a residence by a parent after which time she was struck by a bullet that traveled through a window and into the residence. Because of the conditions of the incident, NOPD's Homicide Section assumed control of the investigation.

As the investigation progressed, NOPD detectives developed and positively identified Rogers as the perpetrator in this incident. Detectives then secured an arrest warrant for Rogers on one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of illegal use of weapons.

Today, members of the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad, U.S. Marshals Task Force and JPSO located Rogers at a hotel in the 50 block of Terry Parkway in Jefferson Parish. After a multi-hour standoff, Rogers was placed under arrest and taken into custody. A second subject that was with Rogers was also detained. No further information is currently available regarding the second subject.

All subjects are innocent until proven guilty.
